Why treatment strategy comes first
Healthcare waste is not a single, uniform stream. Its composition, moisture content, packaging, and hazardous characteristics influence the selection and operation of treatment technologies. Segregation at the point of generation is therefore essential: it limits the volume requiring specialized treatment and prevents incompatible materials from entering a thermal system.
Inside the thermal treatment process
In a modern incineration facility, waste is introduced into a primary combustion chamber under controlled conditions. Combustion gases then pass through a secondary chamber designed to promote further oxidation.
Flue-gas treatment is part of the system
Combustion alone does not complete the treatment process. Depending on the design and regulatory requirements, exhaust gases may pass through heat recovery, particulate separation, reagent injection, and wet scrubbing.
